The Manchester Airports Group Plc (M.A.G) is the country’s largest UK-owned airport operator. Its four airports serve around 42 million passengers every year.
Manchester Airport Group's developments arm sought consent for three separate hotel developments to serve the growth in demand at the airport.
The land at the airport is within the Green Belt, which led to sensitivities over landscape and ecological impacts.
NJL devised a planning strategy involving a combination of full, outline and reserved matters consents and set briefs for specialist studies. We co-ordinated the evidence base to demonstrate the need for the hotels and thereby justify the 'very special circumstances' test for development in the green belt.
Each application was prepared, submitted and recommended for approval within 16 weeks with successful determinations achieved in cooperation with Manchester City Council, without the need for Section 106 agreements.
