Creating a high density, sustainable urban neighbourhood
NJL Consulting is acting for Peel Investments (North) Limited to bring forward a site adjacent to the intu Trafford Centre for sustainable urban neighbourhood comprising 3,000 apartments, including family accommodation, 80,000 sq.m of offices, 6,700 sq.m of supporting uses, hotels and a primary school. The development will front the Manchester Ship Canal and will include a ‘green’ bridge to the intu Trafford Centre. High quality public open spaces and landscaping will be integrated into the development. Trafford Waters represents a £1 billion investment and will generate 5,000 new jobs.
NJL provided strategic and detailed planning advice throughout the planning application process, coordinated the other consultants involved with the project and submitted the planning application.
NJL prepared a suite of bespoke planning reports to justify a complex and strategic planning case. These explained the comprehensive approach to the development and addressed planning issues relating to residential, employment, retail and environmental matters. NJL’s expertise were also utilised to formulate a strategic delivery strategy for the development.
NJL continues to work with Trafford Council and Peel during the application process.
Trafford Waters is a development of sub-regional significance and is of a scale and density not seen before in Trafford. It was therefore necessary to bring forward a bespoke approach to the planning case for the development which not only justified the planning position but also drew together the numerous technical assessments to explain how the success of the development will result from the comprehensive approach that has been taken to the components of the development. This sat alongside a delivery strategy which explained the commercial realities of delivering a scheme of this scale and how this could be achieved.
The scale and complexity of the Trafford Waters proposals has required close liaison with Trafford Council to create bespoke strategies and solutions.
