High Court has quashed a planning permission granted by the Forest of Dean District Council to Aldi for a discount food store Coleford, Gloucestershire (see Midcounties Co-operative Limited v Forest of Dean District Council  EWHC 2056 (Admin)).
The judgement provides a useful reminder of the need for clear, robust and reasoned planning judgement, in particular where a decision is finely balanced.
Acting on behalf of Pillars Group Limited, NJL is pleased to confirm the submission and validation of a planning application which seeks to regenerate a neglected gateway site on the approach to Preston City Centre. The planning application seeks full consent for a car servicing garage with associated parking, landscaping and signage.
The site had previously been earmarked for residential and then more recently retail development. However, changes in market interest opened an avenue for the site to be used for employment purposes instead. Car servicing operator IN‘n’OUT has signed up to the scheme.

We are delighted to confirm Phase 1 of Spinning Point has won the Regeneration category of this year’s RTPI NW Planning Awards for Excellence. The project, approved by Rossendale Borough Council in February 2016, includes demolition of various neglected buildings, partial demolition and refurbishment of the former Town Hall building, provision of a new bus station and ancillary retail and leisure uses in Rawtenstall Town Centre. The application was submitted on behalf of the RTB Partnership (which consists of Barnfield Investment Properties Limited, Together Housing Group and Rossendale Borough Council).
NJL Consulting have submitted a detailed planning application, on behalf of Fylde Coast Academy Trust, for a new academy school within Blackpool for up to 1,280 pupils aged 2-16 years, Armfield Academy.
We are delighted to announce that MediaCityUK won Planning Permission of the Year at the Planning Awards 2017, run in conjunction with PlanningResource and PlacemakingResource. NJL Consulting worked on behalf of Peel Media Limited and joint venture between Peel Land and Property and Legal and General Capital to submit the application.
Phase 2 will double the size of MediaCityUK and represents a £1 billion investment in this location. It will bring forward c.1,800 apartments and 50,000 sq.m of offices with supporting retail, leisure, car parking and public realm.
