NJL Consulting Leeds submits application for Unite the Union improvements
NJL Consulting (Leeds) Ltd has submitted an application for planning permission to deliver substantial improvements to Unite the Unions’ existing premises on Call Lane, Leeds.
The scheme, designed by Consarc, a Belfast based architecture and design consultancy, will provide the opportunity to add two storeys to the existing building, following removal of the existing roof space offices, to provide upgraded office, conferencing facilities and disabled access arrangements. The design of the scheme has been guided by in-depth discussions between Consarc architects and planning officers at Leeds City Council, resulting in a modern and stylish addition to the Leeds skyline, and much improved internal accommodation.
The design respects the context of the site, being within the Leeds City Centre Conservation Area, and close to the River Aire, taking into account the existing street scene, adjacent building heights and massing and flood risk issues. The office scheme is an appropriate use within the City Centre, an area well served by public transport options, thereby supporting the role and function of the building in its use by Unite the Union.
Consarc and NJL Consulting (Leeds) Ltd were assisted by Curtins and WYG in preparing the planning application which is now being considered by Leeds City Council.
