    NJL analysis of Aldi's results

News and results coming out of the first half of the 2017/18 financial year demonstrate the continued push of German convenience stores on the UK convenience goods market.  As Aldi and Lidl advance on displacing the UK ‘Top Four’ (Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, and Morrisons), it is the former who has surpassed already confident revenue targets.

This morning Aldi reported revenues up 13.5% in FY16.  This surpasses optimistic targets envisaged by industry leaders.

High Court quashes Forest of Dean Aldi consent

High Court  has quashed a planning permission granted by the Forest of Dean District Council to Aldi for a discount food store Coleford, Gloucestershire (see Midcounties Co-operative Limited v Forest of Dean District Council [2017] EWHC 2056 (Admin)).

The judgement provides a useful reminder of the need for clear, robust and reasoned planning judgement, in particular where a decision is finely balanced.

Submission to introduce IN'n'OUT to Preston

Acting on behalf of Pillars Group Limited, NJL is pleased to confirm the submission and validation of a planning application which seeks to regenerate a neglected gateway site on the approach to Preston City Centre.  The planning application seeks full consent for a car servicing garage with associated parking, landscaping and signage.

The site had previously been earmarked for residential and then more recently retail development.  However, changes in market interest opened an avenue for the site to be used for employment purposes instead.  Car servicing operator IN‘n’OUT has signed up to the scheme.
