A kick start to Eccles Town Centre regeneration
We are pleased to have advised and consulted upon the submission of an ambitious new mixed-used development within Eccles town centre.
The scheme, designed and submitted by Jeffrey Bell Architects on behalf of Silverlane Developments (NW) Limited, will introduce up to 270 new apartments within a new residential tower at the top of Church Street. At ground floor, 685 square metres of commercial space will allow for a mix of uses likely to include cafes, restaurants or a new retail offering which will bring increased activity and vitality to the area.
Working in line with nation-wide objectives to build much needed housing close to key transport hubs, it is hoped that the development can act as a catalyst for further regeneration in Eccles, and be a boost for local businesses.
Salford has already seen wide ranging regeneration efforts, with development of Media City over previous decades bringing in millions of pounds worth of investment. It is hoped that Eccles can now witness a similar scale of growth to that seen across the strategic areas of Salford City Centre, MediaCityUK and The Quays. Driving this ambition, the City Council has already stated its commitment to the regeneration of all of Salford’s town centres, recognising the role they play in serving the needs of surrounding residential communities and as centres of economic growth and employment.
So far Eccles town centre has already secured in the region of £40 million worth of investment from the public and private sector along with community initiatives over the period 2010-2015, and this continues to deliver a wide range of town centre improvements.
Through running the consultation process for the development, it is apparent that there is significant interest in, and support for, a flagship project in Eccles that can bring further inward investment and provide quality new homes.
With its well-connected location, and already sought-after well-designed homes, the Church Street development is set to signal a tipping point in the regeneration of Eccles. We will be excited to watch the project move forward over the coming months.
