The proposals for the UK’s first ‘Wavegarden’ inland surfing lake will deliver an exciting leisure complex on a site thwart with difficulties, from century’s worth of industrial contamination, an ecologically sensitive environment, a flood plain, shallow ground water levels, and the sensitivities of the local people who were still feeling the pain of the closure of the village’s principal source of employment. NJL’s coordination of the planning process, along with extensive engagement with the Local Authority and key stakeholders ensured that a successful planning decision was delivered in June 2014, with the scheme set to open in the Summer of 2015.
