NJL Consulting is delighted to announce that Phase 2 of MediaCityUK has been shortlisted for Planning Permission of the Year at The Planning Awards 2017. Phase 2 of MediaCityUK comprises 11 development plots and will bring forward c.1,800 apartments and 50,000 sq.m of offices with supporting retail, leisure, car parking and public realm to continue the success of this prominent urban regeneration project. Permission was granted on 1st September 2017 and it will represent £1 billion of investment in this location.
NJL acted on behalf of Peel Media Limited, a joint venture between Peel Land and Property Group and Legal and General Capital. NJL was an integral part of the project team, providing strategic and detailed planning advice throughout the design process. NJL set up a Planning Performance Agreement with Salford City Council which drove the planning process to a specific and tight timescale, including detailed pre-application engagement with the Council. NJL co-ordinated the submission of the applications and the technical documentation that was submitted and prepared planning documents including a Planning and Delivery Statement, Technical Assessment Summary and an Executive Summary. NJL worked closely with Salford City Council through to the successful determination of the applications within statutory timescales.

This morning, (Friday 22nd April), I attended a breakfast seminar at Radisson Blu put on by Forum for the Built Environment and sponsored by Caulmert. The evening economy is a significant contributor to economic performance and is a growing sector at a time when much of the economy, including the retail sector, is struggling. The evening economy has become a main attractor for many centres and makes a significant and valuable contribution to the economy in its own right. In fact, it contributes £66bn to the national economy, which represents a third of town and city centre turnover.
