EMILY BATES

Planner

Emily has been a Graduate Planner with NJL since August 2022, after starting out as a planning intern with us in 2021. Having quickly settled into the role,  she’s responsible for completing background research, setting out cases for development, and preparing draft reports. As well as monitoring ongoing applications, feedback, and liaising with clients and technical consultants.

Before joining NJL, Emily completed the 4-year MPlan Town and Regional Planning at the University of Liverpool, which also included time spent as a planning assistant at a town planning consultancy during her third year.

Passionate about broadening her skill set, Emily has dedicated a lot of her time to voluntary work and self-development over the last few years. While at university, she joined the Young Planners Network, volunteered at the Urbanist Platform, and worked with Place Education to help expose students to a career in planning at an earlier age. She was also awarded the Regional North West ‘Women in Property 2020’ Student Award and University of Liverpool’s Moss Madden Scholarship for planning excellence.
