Its been a great start to the year for NJL with two decisions being secured in the last week.

Last week, NJL secured consent for a change of use and rear extension at Borlocco House following a lengthy planning process. Located in Boston Spa, Leeds, this large 7-bedroom locally significant house was built in the 19th century and most recently in use as a children's home. In recent years, the building has been left empty, with this approval allowing the building to be brought back into active use and turned into a beautiful family home.
Securing this approval required careful consideration with several factors to address including the housing being locally listed, sat within the Boston Spa Conservation Area and the site having a number of TPOs with large root protection areas around the building. With some considered design solutions by Natalie and her team at Southgate & Sarabia Architects and through positive engagement with Leeds City Council, we were able to secure this long-awaited approval. We’re looking forward to seeing this come to life.

In addition, last week marked a significant milestone for Seashell Trust as NJL Consulting successfully secured full planning consent for the new College, Administration, Sports, and Training Building at the Trust's Campus in Heald Green, located within the Stockport Green Belt. This forms the next phase of the Campus Transformation Project.
In April 2023, due to urgent structural concerns, the Trust had to take unprecedented action in immediately closing the current college facility and relocating all staff and students to other parts of the campus on a temporary basis. Therefore, obtaining planning consent swiftly has been a top priority and will now enable the Trust to progress with the delivery of the new college facilities to reduce the impact on its staff and students.
NJL Consulting collaborated closely with Seashell Trust, the technical consultant team, and Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council to ensure the planning application's efficient determination. The culmination of these efforts resulted in the approval under delegated powers at the end of January 2024.
The College building is an important component of the overall Campus Transformation Project. Much like the fully operational new school, it has been thoughtfully designed to cater to the unique needs of young adults with complex disabilities to allow them to develop and progress to their full potential. The development will include sports and administration facilities, a new café, activity hall, fitness suite, a suite of flexible multi-purpose rooms, contemporary office space and associated external landscaping.
NJL Consulting continues to advise Seashell Trust on various aspects of the ongoing Transformation Project.
