2023
THE YEAR IN REVIEW

As we canter towards the end of the year, we wanted to take a moment to reflect and take stock on 2023. Its been a fantastic year, with some major project milestones for our clients.
The NJL team has grown and evolved with a number of new team members contributing to the great work we’re currently instructed on.

We have worked on applications across the country and are currently active in over 55 authorities across England and Wales. Over 2023, we have been instructed on over 180 projects and are currently advising on over 5,000 new dwellings which we hope to realise through 2024 and beyond. We’ve submitted 17 amendments to existing planning permissions and over 45 discharge of conditions applications!
We started the year strong with Mark, Rachel and Victoria representing NJL at Propski. 4 days in the alps was a brilliant way to kick off the new year and catch up with new and familiar contacts.
The team were invited to the Pure Padel opening event in Harrogate in February which marked the start of a great working relationship with the team there. We’re currently advising on a number of Padel Courts across the country and have secured consent for the first court in the North West. We are excited to see this great sport be rolled out more widely. In spring, we welcomed Oliver Eves who joined us from Savills in London. Oli brought a range of experience and skills from over 4 years advising on large scale residential development across the South East.

UKREiiF was a highlight for NJL, and many others, in May. We spent 3 days taking in all of the resources, talks, events and activities. Nick was invited to discuss the ‘politicisation of planning’ on a panel discussion which was a great success. Sticking with panel discussions, as part of CIH, Rachel Glover-White took part in a Women in Planning discussion all around how we grapple with retrofitting, sustainability and the planning challenges

In the summer, Rachel Glover-White was promoted to Director, in recognition of her commitment  and hard work throughout her time in the business. Shortly after, Victoria Coleman was promoted t Senior Planner- again a testament to her hard work, commitment and great results.

We also welcomed Claire Malley as executive assistant in the summer as well as Sophie Stanton who joined us from Newcastle in the autumn.

As well as project work, the NJL team has also engaged in a number of charity initiatives. Oli and Rachel competed in the JLL triathlon in June, in aid of WWF, and the team raised funds for Macmillan Cancer Care through their coffee morning in the summer. We’ve also been present at a number of charitable events and initiatives across the North West this year.

November marked our 20th year of business and we celebrated in style at the Manchester Art Gallery. It was a great evening celebrating with colleagues, clients and friends who have helped make NJL what it is today.
